EARTH DOG TRIALS
WHAT HAPPENS: To stimulate the dogs natural instinct to ‘go to ground' and flush out quarry from the den a course is set up with a earth (den) and pre-laid scent for the dog to follow and find the den. The dog is timed in getting to the earth, working it (growling, barking, scratching, and digging). There are three levels of achievement, novice, senior and Master Earth dog.
WHAT DOGS DOES IT SUIT: All terriers LOVE this especially the small Terriers such as; Dachshund, Australian Terrier, Australian Silky Terrier, Bedlington Terrier, Border Terrier, Cairn Terrier, Dandie Dinmont Terrier, Fox Terrier (Smooth & Wirehaired), Jack Russell Terrier, Lakeland Terrier, Manchester Terrier, Norfolk Terrier, Norwich Terrier, Parson Russell Terrier, Scottish Terrier, Sealyham Terrier, Skye Terrier, Welsh Terrier and West Highland White Terrier.
WHY DO IT: Earth Dog Trials provide a great outlet for Terriers to release energy and gives them a place where they can exert their natural ability, many of which have to be controlled at home. It provides excellent mental and physical stimulation to the dogs and they love it.
