TRACKING

WHAT HAPPENS: Tracking is where a dog follows the scent trail left along a certain route.

WHAT DOGS DOES IT SUIT: Tracking is great for both dogs and people who love physical activity and are in reasonable good physical shape, the scent hounds love this activity but it is not restricted to those breeds, most dogs love it especially the hounds, gundogs, retrievers and such. The dog normally needs to have some basic obedience training.

WHY DO IT: Many dog owners are involved in tracking with their dogs as a hobby (for fun) or as a sport (to earn titles), or both. You will need a tracking harness, a long lead, treats and time. Tracks go over a couple of acres to twenty acres for advanced dogs. Tracking keeps the dogs mind working and will help quench those scenting and hunting instincts. It is a great activity and keeps both of you in great shape.
