Please remember, as with people, the history of your dogs ancestors plays a big part in his characteristics and behaviour but every dog has their own personality (it may not be proven but I believe this and I think all of you would too) and along with the environment in which they grow up, all three things (genetics, personality & environment) make the individual pup that has stolen your heart!
A BREIF HISTORY ABOUT DOG BREEDS
Dogs have a special place in our hearts and life, this has been the case since the times of early man. Dogs were guardians, hunters, protectors, shepherds and companions throughout the evolution on man. Is it no wonder that we feel a bond to them and feel complete when a dog is a member of our family! Each dog breed, each individual dog serves a purpose, the most highly regarded of these as a member of our family, a piece that you couldn't be without.
In return for our love and that special bond that our dogs bring out in us, they return it tenfold along with devotion, respect and loyalty. We choose our dogs by heart and instinct but we should always be aware of the nature of the dog breed or the breed mixture that has created the little one in your life (or soon to be). The different dog breeds were created by a mixture of the ancestral breeds, the purpose of the dog and the climate and environment to create the dog breeds that exist today. Most dog breeds were created for flock guarding, mastiff, scent hound, gun dog, terrier, northern herding or southern dogs (even the toys) but in the show ring the different breeds are classified into 7 groups; Group 1 the Toys, Group 2 the Terriers, Group 3 the Gundogs, Group 4 the Hounds, Group 5 the Working dogs, Group 6 the Utility dogs and Group 7 the Non-Sporting breeds.
It is good to acknowledge the history of the breeds and it can sometimes help to explain some little habits your little one has; (please note these are general comments about what was bred in the origin of the breed not today and is not a description of the breed mentioned)
